Dumbarton Forward aims to limit traffic congestion during peak periods in the State Route 84-Dumbarton Bridge-Bayfront Expressway corridor between Interstate 880 in Fremont and Marsh Road in Menlo Park.

Dumbarton Forward encourages commuters to use transit instead of driving in personal vehicles, which improves commute times for all travelers in the area.

Bike Access Improvements Project

The Dumbarton Bike Access Improvements Project focuses on improving safety and connectivity for people biking by:

  • Completing critical gaps in the existing bicycle network;
  • Improving wayfinding; and
  • Providing safe intersection crossings along the Dumbarton Bridge Corridor.

It also provides an opportunity to deliver a more connected and continuous bicycle network with access to major activity centers, regional public transit and recreational facilities in Redwood City, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto, Fremont and Newark. The project advances the goals of Dumbarton Forward by finding solutions to encourage bicycling and other sustainable modes of travel.

Operational Improvements Project

This project will convert the existing outside shoulder on State Route 84/Bayfront Expressway into a part-time bus-only lane during peak commute periods. Key intersections will also receive transit signal priority upgrades aimed at reducing congestion and improving bus travel time reliability across the Dumbarton Bridge corridor.
