Take Transit to Juneteenth Celebrations

Celebrate Juneteenth throughout the Bay Area with free events held by cities and community organizations all month long.

MTC encourages everyone to take transit. Avoid the headaches of driving and parking: Travel by train, bus or ferry. Set up a Clipper card on your mobile phone ahead of time – no need to worry about exact change for your ride.

Check out events happening near you:

Alameda County

A special gathering of Oakland First Fridays on Friday, June 7, from 5 to 9 p.m. (Telegraph Avenue between 27th & 22nd Streets) will honor Juneteenth with a celebration of Black culture, art, music, food and community.

• Take the AC Transit 6 or 18 bus.

The Livermore Valley Arts Juneteenth celebration will feature music, art, drumming, singing, dancing and other performances. Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bankhead Theater (2400 First Street).

• Travel to the Livermore Transit Center by ACE train or by Wheels or Amtrak bus.

The Berkeley Juneteenth Festival on Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 pm. will take place at  the intersection of Adeline and Alcatraz (3284 Adeline St). Expect tons of great activities, including music, performances, vendors, food and a kid zone with STEM activities, a rock wall, art, storytelling and more.

• Travel to Ashby BART station.

Contra Costa County

Join the Pinole Pride and Juneteenth Celebration on Sunday, June 9, from noon to 3 p.m. at Fernandez Park (595 Tennent Avenue) for music, performances, children’s activities, food trucks and more.

• Take a WESTCAT bus to the Hercules Transit Center – the park is a short walk away.

Check out the Martinez Juneteenth celebration for live music, activities for kids and more – Saturday, June 29, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 245 North Court Street in Martinez.

• Take Capital Corridor/Amtrak.
• Hop on the Amtrak Thruway Connecting Service San Joaquins line.
• Catch the County Connection number 316 bus.

Marin County

San Rafael's Juneteenth Family Festival will be held Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church (620 Del Ganado Road). Celebrate the African American community with food, music, community leaders, handmade arts, a bounce house and more.

• Take the Marin Transit 35 or 245 bus to Manuel T. Freitas Parkway and Del Ganado Road.

Mill Valley’s Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 15 (11 a.m. to 3 pm.) will take place at Tamalpais High School (700 Miller Avenue). Celebrate African American Independence Day with live music, food, a basketball tournament and activities for all ages.

• Take a local Marin Transit bus from the San Rafael Transit Center or the Marin City Hub.

Juneteenth in Tiburon will be held on Main Street (7 Main Street) on Saturday, June 15, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and will feature horses, live jazz, poetry readings and guest speakers.

• Take the Marin Transit 219 bus.
• Take the Golden Gate Ferry to Tiburon.

The Marin City Juneteenth Festival will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Rocky Graham Park (800 Drake Avenue). This community block party in the park will feature music, art, vendors and many activities for children, including supervised childcare in a gated playground. Transit to the nearby Marin City Hub:

• Take the Golden Gate Transit 130 or 150 bus.
• Hop on the Marin Transit 22, 36 or 71 bus.

Napa County

The Juneteenth Celebration with Chef Tanya Holland on June 16 is a ticketed event from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Grove At Copia (500 1st Street, Napa). This celebration of Southern BBQ will include drinks and a DJ performance.

• Take the Amtrak bus to the Napa stop.

San Francisco County

The San Francisco Juneteenth parade will take place on Saturday, June 8. It kicks off at 11 a.m. on Market Street at Spear, and heads west to a festival at Fulton Plaza near Civic Center. 

• Take BART or Muni to Embarcadero Station, or Golden Gate Ferry or San Francisco Bay Ferry to the San Francisco Ferry Building, and then walk to the start of the parade route. 
• Muni or BART will take you directly to Fulton Plaza for the festival.

There is also a Fillmore Juneteenth SF Freedom Celebration on Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with performances, food trucks, carnival activities and more. This year’s theme is “decades,” and each block will take you through a different period from the 70s to today. 

• Take Muni bus routes 22, 5 or 38 to get to the heart of the party.

Head to the Juneteenth Bayview Father’s Day Festival for a combined Father’s Day and Juneteenth party: Saturday, June 16, from noon to 6 p.m. at Gilman Park. Expect performances, amusement park rides, a car show and more.

• The Muni 29 bus takes you straight to the park, while the number 8 bus or the T Third streetcar are both a short walk away.

Enjoy the Golden Gate Park Band’s Father’s Day & Juneteenth Symphony in the Park on Sunday, June 16, 1 to 2:45 p.m. at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell (Music Concourse Drive in Golden Gate Park).

• Take the N Judah streetcar or number 7 bus to 9th Avenue; then hop on the 44 bus.
• Take the number 5 bus to 10th Avenue.

San Mateo County

The San Mateo County Wellness Celebration: “2024 Juneteenth Celebration Hope, Persistence, & Purpose: The Continued Journey” will take place on Friday, June 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Eastside College Preparatory School (1041 Myrtle Street, East Palo Alto). Activities will include health and wellness checks, a resource fair, spoken word, music, dancing and more.

• Take a SamTrans bus: EPX , 280, 296 or 397.

The Juneteenth Celebration in Downtown San Mateo on June 15 will be held 1 to 3 p.m. at B Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues. Come for music, performances, readings and more. 

• Ride Caltrain to San Mateo Station.

Santa Clara County

The 43rd Annual Juneteenth in the Streets Festival is taking place Saturday, June 15, from noon to 7 p.m. in the SoFA (South First area) district of downtown San Jose. There will be music (featuring a historic battle of the HBCU bands Alabama State vs Florida A&M), food and vendors of all kinds. To get there:

• The Diridon Station transit hub is served by Caltrain, ACE and Amtrak trains; VTA light rail; and Greyhound, VTA and Santa Cruz METRO buses.
• Several VTA bus and light rail routes will take you to nearby Santa Clara station.

The Juneteenth Community Festival at Hillview Park in Los Altos (97 Hillview Avenue) will be on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 5 p.m. Expect music, dancing, art, performances, food and more.

• Take VTA number 22 bus to El Camino and Rengstorff; Hillview Park is about a 30 minute walk from the bus stop.

Solano County

The 34th Annual Vallejo Juneteenth Festival and Parade will be held on Saturday, June 15. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Tennessee Street at Sonoma Boulevard and culminates at a Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Green (301 Mare Island Way). Expect dancers, music, and a pop-up paint party and youth art contest. To get there:

• Take a SolTrans bus to the Vallejo Transit Center.
• Ride the San Francisco Bay Ferry to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal.

1st Solano County Juneteenth will be a two-day event hosted by Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the City of Fairfield on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16 at Allan Witt Park in Fairfield.

• Take FAST or SolTrans to the Fairfield Transportation Center.

Sonoma County

The Sonoma County Juneteenth/54th Annual MLK Community Festival Celebration of Diversity and Inclusion will be held on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (1671 Hendley Street) in Santa Rosa. There will be live music, a basketball tournament, Zumba, arts and crafts, activities for kids and more.

• Sonoma County Transit, Santa Rosa CityBus and Golden Gate Transit buses all serve the nearby Santa Rosa Transit Mall.

Tune in for live jazz, drum workshops and poetry on Saturday, June 15, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Free Juneteenth Celebration at the Plaza with the Healdsburg Jazz Festival (Healdsburg Plaza, at the corner of Healdsburg Avenue and Matheson Street).

• Take the Sonoma County Transit bus 60 to Healdsburg Plaza.
